Before Asian America

Thursday, July 17th
7pm-9:30pm
Locus
1640 Post Street
San Francisco

Although the definition of “Asian America” is always changing, we wanted to explore “Before Asian America” to understand how “Asian America” began. We are currently witnessing another step in the evolution of Asian American identity, as we consider our relationship to the people and cultures of the Middle East and even North Africa.

To help inform this next step, “Before Asian America” offers perspectives on the origins, meanings and challenges of forming a collective Asian American identity. Join us as our panelists discuss not only the triumphs of AA identity and activism, but also the community fissures,long-standing challenges and successful strategies that have led to today’s identity.

Panelists include:

  • Kim Geron
    Assistant Professor
    Cal State Hayward
  • Eddie Wong
    Executive Director
National Asian American Telecommunications Association (NAATA)
  • Helen Zia
    Author and Journalist

Moderated by:
