7-9:30pm “Asian American Film”, “Asian American Music”, and “Asian American Theater” are just a few of the terms often used to categorize and contextualize the work of Asian American artists, even when that work doesn’t explicitly contain Asian American issues. How do we decide what is or isn’t Asian American, and what impact does such a label have on the perceived legitimacy of the work? What happens to the artist when their art doesn’t deal with Asian Americans? This month, Third Thursdays sits down with three artists as they share their stories and experiences, and explore the meaning and relevance of the Asian American arts. Panelists include:
