The API Impact in November?

Thursday, October 21st
7-9:30pm
Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Northern California
1840 Sutter
San Francisco

This month we look ahead to the presidential elections in November. The API vote remains a small number, representing about 3% of the ballots cast in the year 2000. Given the national polls still show a close, contested race, could the API vote have an impact?

It’s difficult to predict where most of the API vote will be cast. The API vote has wavered between the Democratic and Republican candidates in the 1992 and 1996 elections. Although APIs strongly supported Gore in the 2000 Election, a recent poll from New California Media shows that the Democratic lead over likely API voters in 2004 is only half as large now. Many APIs remain undecided and choose not to identify with either party. Although many experts have said it’s a mystery, this month, we’ll consider the questions of what the API vote will look like and whether it will have an impact on next month’s election. This panel discussion will be lead by Sandy Close, Executive Director of Pacific News Service.
