Glass Ceilings & Their Impact On Asians & Pacific Islanders

Thursday, June 16th
7-9:30pm
Japanese Cultural & Community Center
1840 Sutter Street
San Francisco, CA

“What will I be when I grow up?” It’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves as children. For many of us growing up in the APIA community, no matter what career path we followed, we were brought up to believe that lots of hard work and education would lead to job promotions and career advancement.

However, the existence of “glass ceilings” may challenge these beliefs. While Asian Americans are one of the fastest growing groups in the United States labor force, they remain one of the least represented groups holding key leadership positions in nonprofit, for-profit, and public sector organizations, despite being having high levels of qualifications, education and experience. This begs the question, “Are Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders fully being recognized and valued for their worthy contributions in the workplace?”

Come hear from professionals in a wide range of careers speak about their struggles, successes and strategies to tackle glass ceilings, and discuss this salient topic with others at our June event.

Panelists include:

  • Gayle Haunani Hunt
    Project Manager
    Institute for Culturally Competent Care
    Kaiser Permanente
  • David Lee
    Associate Product Director
    Johnson and Johnson
  • Alan Liang
