About the Speakers:

Le Tim Ly
Liberation Ink, co-founder

Le Tim Ly is a first generation Chinese immigrant from Vietnam. He currently serves on the board of Youth United for Community Action (YUCA) in East Palo Alto and recently joined the staff at the Partnership for Immigrant Leadership and Action (PILA) as one of the program coordinators. In his experience working with grassroots social justice organizations, he found that the often tenuous relationships with foundations and the demands and expectations of the funding world represented a barrier to developing a long-term, visionary grassroots movement for justice. In 2004, Le co-founded Liberation Ink, an all volunteer apparel design and printing collective, to provide a new and alternative source of funding for grassroots organizing.

Alice Ng
Animals Asia Foundation, USA Representative

Originally from New York, Alice spent her earlier professional life as an IT consultant for large corporations. But after some time, she found herself growing tired of working for a corporate cause and was drawn towards environmental and animal welfare issues. Finally, in 1999, she broke free and followed her own manifest’s destiny to San Francisco, California.

She joined WildAid’s International Shark Campaign and coordinated efforts to combat the global shark crisis that included developing international press relationships, raising consumer and public awareness, and developing a unique traveling shark exhibition, which was hosted in major cities in the United States and Asia.

Desiring more direction-action oriented work, she later co-founded Animal Balance and organized a successful project to humanely manage the cat and dog populations of the Galapagos Islands through sterilization.

Today, Alice heads up the San Francisco offices of Animals Asia as their U.S. Representative. She lives with her husband, Dennis, who unfortunately, is allergic to all animals.

Villy Wang
BAYCAT, President & CEO

For Ms. Wang, BAYCAT is the combination of her own passion for music, art, education and business enterprise. As Executive Director, she brings a unique background to the position with over twenty years experience in education, arts programming, nonprofit business and law. Prior to joining BAYCAT as a co-founding team member, Ms. Wang was an elementary school teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) for three years specializing in project-based collaborative teaching methodology that incorporated music, arts and technology into standard based curriculum.

Ms. Wang’s passion for education and love of the arts has been demonstrated throughout the SF Bay Area. Prior to BAYCAT, she served as a curriculum developer for the SFUSD, teacher presenter for the Dean of Education at University of California, Berkeley and for the Bay Area Writing Project-specifically on authentic language assessments. Additionally, Ms. Wang served as the Director of Business and Operations for the SF Jazz Festival. Currently, in addition to her role at BAYCAT, she trains SFUSD administrators, teachers and staff as a consultant.

Prior to her nonprofit work, Ms. Wang was an attorney at Morrison & Foerster, Adjunct Law Professor at New College School and served as a commercial and investment banker in New York prior to moving to San Francisco in 1990.
